Gartner believes buyers of outsourcing services will remain focused on cost cutting throughout 2003. Lorrie Scardino reports.

Last year, enterprises buying and using outsourcing had one goal above all others – to reduce the cost of services. They were driven by internal objectives to cut operating costs and improve the bottom line.
In response, many external service providers (ESPs) reduced the cost of their outsourcing provision in 2002, hoping to create goodwill by demonstrating that they were partners who understood their clients’ needs. ESPs banked on the promise of enduring relationships and the hope that discretionary spending by enterprises would come their way.
